Brevinnis ancistrus fish, also known as ancistrus, is a freshwater fish from South America. This fish is often appreciated for its beautiful brown or gray color and its many thorns on the sides and on the head, as well as for its fleshy lips and its pronounced barbels.

In terms of size, ancistrusal fish can reach about 15 centimeters in length, although most individuals do not exceed 10 centimeters. They have an elongated body and compressed laterally, with well -developed pectoral and pelvic fins which allow them to quickly move in water.

Ancistrusian fish fish are social animals and can live in a group in their natural environment. They are mainly herbivorous and feed on plants, algae and mussels, but they can also eat insects and small fish. In captivity, ancistrusal fish-cations are generally easy to raise and can live in aquarium with other peaceful fish. They need a well planted aquarium with hiding places to hide and reproduce, as well as good filtration and adequate lighting. They can also be nourished with fish pellets, frozen vegetables and living foods such as snails and vase worms.
