Barbus lateristriga (Bearded)
Description
The bearded lateristriga fish is a freshwater fish that belongs to the cyprinid family. He is from rivers and West African lakes, notably Cameroon and Congo.
The bearded lateristriga has an elongated body and a pointed head. Its color generally varies from dark gray to dark brown, with lighter vertical stripes on the side of the body. The bearded lateristriga can reach a length of 15 cm, but most individuals do not exceed 10 cm.
The bearded lateristriga is a gregarious fish that lives in groups in the shallow and calm waters of rivers and lakes. It feeds mainly on small invertebrates and aquatic vegetation. Le Barbus Lateristriga is also known to be a good exhaustor, making it a useful species for breeding aquarium fish.
Le Barbus Lateristriga is a relatively common species in its natural habitat, but it is not without risks. The degradation of its habitat and overfishing are threats to this species, although the bearded lateristriga is not considered in danger of extinction at present.
