Corynopoma Riiséi is a freshwater fish from South America, more precisely basins from the Amazonas river and the Rio Orinoco basin in Colombia and Guyana. It is up to the Anostomidae family and is also known as the red belly catfish due to the distinctive color of its abdomen.

The body of Corynopoma Rieisi is lying and compressed laterally, with a wide and rounded head and eyes located on the sides of the head. Its mouth is located below the head and has pointed conical teeth used to nibble on algae and aquatic plants. The red belly catfish has a single dorsal fin and a very developed caudal fin, which allows it to move quickly in the water.

The color of the corynopoma risei varies from silver gray to dark brown on top, while the belly is bright red. The color of the fins can vary from yellow to red. The male can measure up to 7 cm long, while the female is generally smaller, with a maximum size of 6 cm.

Corynopoma Riissei is a gregarious fish that tends to regroup in small benches in the calm and shallow waters of rivers and lakes. It is omnivorous and feeds mainly on algae and aquatic plants, but can also eat insects and small crustaceans. Red belly catfish is considered a popular aquarium fish due to its small size and distinctive color. However, it can be aggressive towards other species of fish and requires a well planted aquarium with hiding places to hide and feel safe.
