Description

Cyrtocara polystigma fish is a freshwater fish from Lake Malawi, in Africa. It belongs to the cichlid family and is also known as the "Malawi-fish fish" because of its elongated shape and its large mouth in the shape of a suction cup.

Cyrtocara polystigma fish is dark blue in color on the back and sides, with metallic reflections which give it a shiny appearance. His chest, belly and pectoral fins are white in color, while her pelvic and caudal fins are light blue. Cyrtocara polystigma fish can reach a length of 15 centimeters when adult, although most specimens measure approximately 10 to 12 centimeters in length.

Cyrtocara polystigma fish is generally considered a peaceful and sociable fish, which is well understood with other species of peaceful fish. It is also known for its ability to cohabit with smaller fish without harassing or threatening them. However, it can become territorial when it reproduces, and can be aggressive towards other males of the same species or towards fish of similar size.

Cyrtocara polystigma fish is mainly nourished by small crustaceans and invertebrates, but it is also able to eat plants and algae. In captivity, it can be nourished with fish pellets, living or frozen foods, and whitewashed vegetables.

Cyrtocara polystigma fish is an oviparous fish, that is to say that it lays eggs which it then fertilizes. The female can lay up to 500 eggs at a time, which it will then covered and protect until the fry hatch. Dolds are generally independent from birth and can feed alone, although the mother generally continues to protect them and feed them for a few days.

Due to its bright color and peaceful behavior, Cyrtocara Polystigma fish is a popular choice for freshwater aquariums. It is also appreciated for its ease of reproduction in captivity, which makes it an interesting choice for beginner breeders.
