Description

The Echidna Polyzona fish, commonly known as a pudddle fish or the spray fish, is a freshwater fish that lives in the rivers and the West African lakes. It is a rather small fish, generally measuring between 10 and 15 cm long. Its most striking feature is its skin covered with spikes in the shape of spikes, which gives it the appearance of a pangolin. These spikes are flexible and covered with a chemical substance which can be irritating for predators.

Pangolin fish has a gray or dark brown color on the top, with lighter spots on the belly. Its head is elongated and sharp, with small eyes and a mouth filled with pointed teeth. Its fins are rather small and are arranged symmetrically on each side of its body.

Pangolin fish feeds mainly on small crustaceans, insects and fish smaller than it. It is mainly active at night, spending the day hidden under the stones and the roots of the trees. He can move quickly thanks to his powerful fins and tail, and use his spikes to defend himself against predators.

Pangolin fish is a lonely and territorial fish, each with its own territory which it defends against other individuals in its species. Males are particularly aggressive during the breeding season, when they fight to attract females. The reproduction is made by Frai, with the females laying down eggs which they buried in the sand or the mud. The eggs hatch about a week later, and the fry are autonomous upon blossoming.

Due to its small size and its ability to hide in the muddy funds of the rivers, the toil fish is difficult to catch for fishermen. However, it is sometimes accidentally taken in fishermen's nets and sold on local markets as food. Pangolin fish is not considered a threatened species, but it is protected in certain West African countries.
