Gephyrocharax chapare (Géphyrocharax du Chapare, tetra-glande)
Description
Gephyrocharax Chapare is a freshwater fish from rivers and Creeks from the Chapare region in Bolivia. It is a small fish, generally measuring less than 6 cm in length. Its color varies from dark gray to dark brown, with lighter spots on the body and dark strips along the sides.
Gephyrocharax Chapare has a rather elongated shape, with a rounded head and prominent eyes. His mouth is fitted with fine and pointed teeth, adapted to his Diet composed mainly of insects and small crustaceans. The chapare gephyrocharax also has ventral and pectoral fins, which allow it to quickly move into the water.
Gephyrocharax Chapare is a social and gregarious fish, which lives in groups in the shallow waters of the rivers and the Creeks of the Chapare region. It is active during the day and feeds mainly on insects and small crustaceans which it hunts by swimming quickly in the water. Gephyrocharax Chapare is also known to be a territorial fish, which defends its territory against the intruders of its species.
