Laetacara Dorsigera, also known as Cichlid of the Paraguay river, is a freshwater fish belonging to the Cichlidae family. It is a fish from the Paraguay river basin in South America. Laetacara Dorsigera has a fairly elongated body and laterally compressed, with a wide head and a protractile mouth. Its color varies from pale blue to gray, with orange or yellow spots on the head and back. The lower part of the body is generally darker. The Laetacara Dorsigera can reach a length of 8 cm for males and 6 cm for females.
Laetacara Dorsigera is a peaceful and gregarious fish that lives in groups in the shallow waters of rivers and streams. It feeds mainly on small invertebrates which it finds in the substrate, but it can also eat algae and plants. The Laetacara Dorsigera is a shaded fish, that is to say it needs a strong plant cover to feel safe and reproduce. Laetacara Dorsigera is an oviparous fish, that is to say that it lays eggs which it fertilizes outside of its body. The eggs are then cut by the parents until the fry hatch.
Laetacara Dorsigera is a common fish in its natural environment, but it is also popular in aquarophilia. It is an adaptable and easy to maintain fish, but it needs a well planted aquarium and fresh and well -filtered water.
