The nannostomus trifasciatus is a fish from the Lebiasinidae family, originally from South America. It is a small fish, generally measuring between 3 and 4 cm in length. Its most distinctive characteristic is the black transverse strip which crosses its body, surrounded by two white bands, thus giving it the appearance of being trifasciated. The nannostomus trifasciatus is a gregarious and perennial fish, which likes to live in a group in shallow and calm waters, like marshes and rivers.
