Description

Neolebias Kerguennae is a small fish belonging to the Aplocheilidae family. It measures approximately 2.5 centimeters long and is characterized by its colorful dress and rounded shape. The top of his body is a metallic gray-green, while the underside is white. Its head is wide and rounded, with round eyes and a pointed muzzle. His mouth is small and fitted with tiny teeth, which allows him to eat small insects and insect larvae.

The Neolebias Kerguennae lives mainly in the calm and shallow waters of the humid forests of French Guyana, where it is hidden in the herbaria and the submerged roots to protect itself from the predators. It is mainly active at night, but can also be observed feeding during the day.

Neolebias Kerguennae is a lonely fish, which only gathers to reproduce. The breeding period takes place in summer, when the waters in the region are the hottest. The female lays her eggs in cavities dug in submerged vegetation, where the male fertilizes them. The eggs hatch about a week later, giving birth to fry who feed on plankton until they are large enough to feed on small insects.

The Neolebias Kerguennae is a fascinating fish to observe because of its colorful dress and its lonely behavior.
