Odontocharacidium aphanes (Odontocharacidium aphanes)
Description
Odontocharacidium aphana fish is a freshwater fish that lives in the shallow and unusual waters of rivers and streams from South America. It is a small fish, generally measuring between 5 and 7 centimeters in length. Its color varies from gray to dark brown, with darker stripes along the body.
Odontocharacidium aphanes fish is an opportunistic predator that feeds mainly on small invertebrates and other fish. He has a sharp mouth and sharp teeth which allow him to easily capture his prey. Apart from the breeding period, he generally lives alone, but can also regroup in small benches to hunt.
The reproduction of the Odontocharacidium aphanes fish generally occurs during the rainy season, when the waters are higher and rich in food. Females lay their eggs in nests dug in the mud, which males protect and fertilize. The fry hatch after a few days and are independent from birth.
Odontocharacidium aphanes fish is considered a relatively common species in its natural habitat, although it is threatened by water pollution and the destruction of its habitat. It is also often caught for local consumption, although it is not considered a very popular edible species.
