Ossubtus xinguense (Pacou du Rio Xingu, Eagle beak pacou)
Description
The Ossubtus Xinguese fish is a freshwater fish which is in the waters of the Xingu river basin, in northern Brazil. Its distinctive characteristic is its dark blue color, which earned it its common name of "Xingu Blue Fish". Its average size is about 20 cm, although it can reach up to 30 cm long.
The body of the Ossubtus Xinguese fish is elongated and compressed laterally, with a large head and a small and protractile mouth. Its dorsal fin is long and sharp, while its caudal fin is rounded and slightly curved. Its scales are large and clearly visible, giving it a rough texture to the touch.
Xinguese Ossubtus fish is mainly nourished by crustaceans and small fish. It is generally lonely, but it can sometimes be found in groups when it feeds or reproduces. It is mainly active during the day, but can also be active at night.
The Ossubtus Xinguese fish is considered a endangered species due to the destruction of its natural habitat and overfishing. Its population has decreased considerably in recent years, which has led to conservation efforts to preserve this single species.
