Description

The Phenacogaster Megalostus is a fish from South America waters. It belongs to the cichlid family and is commonly known as "fisheries-fisherman". Its most distinctive feature is its relatively small size, with adults generally reaching about 4 cm in length.

Phenacogaster megalostis has an elongated body and slightly compressed laterally. Its head is wide and flattened, with fleshy lips and a pointed muzzle. His eyes are big and protruding, which gives it a piercing appearance. His mouth is located at the lower end of his head and has strong and pointed teeth.

The megalostic phenacogaster has a brown-greenish dress, with dark blue spots and brown lines that run along its body. Its tail is strong and flattened, which allows it to quickly propel through water. Its fins are short and robust, with rigid rays which allow it to maintain a stable position in the water.

Phenacogaster megalostus is an omnivorous fish, which feeds mainly on algae, invertebrates and small fish. He is mainly active during the day, when he moves in groups to look for food. Phenacogaster megalostus is a territorial fish, which can become aggressive towards other fish that enter its vital space.

Phenacogaster megalostis is a spout reproductive fish, which means that males build nests to attract females. Once a female has accepted the nest of a male, she deposits her eggs there, which are fertilized by the male. The male then takes care of the eggs until they hatch, after which he protects the fry until they are large enough to fend for themselves.

Due to its size and bright colors, Phenacogaster Megalostus is a popular fish for aquariophiles. However, it can be difficult to keep in captivity because of its tendency to become aggressive towards other fish.
