Phenacogaster pectinatus (Pectinatus, golden band tetra)

Phenacogaster pectinatus (Pectinatus, golden band tetra)

Description

Phenacogaster fish pectinatus is a freshwater fish that belongs to the cichlidae family. He is from the watersheds of the Amazon river, in South America. This fish is small, with an average length of 4 to 5 centimeters, and has an elongated shape and flattened laterally. Its color varies from gray to brown, with darker spots on the body and head.

Phenacogaster Pectinatus has territorial behavior and can become aggressive towards other fish of its species or fish of the same size. This is particularly true for males, who defend their territory against intruders. Males also have wider dorsal fins than those of females, which allows them to be more impressive in the eyes of other fish.

The phenacogaster pectinatus feeds mainly on invertebrates such as insects and crustaceans, which it finds by searching the substrate of the bottom of the rivers where it lives. He is also able to capture small fish and devour them.

The phenacogaster pectinatus is an oviparous fish, that is to say that it lays eggs rather than giving birth to young people. The eggs are laid on hard surfaces such as rocks or snail shells, and males protect eggs until they hatch. The fry is very fragile at the start of their lives and must be protected from predators by parents until they are large enough to defend themselves.

Phenacogaster Pectinatus is a popular aquarophilia fish, due to its attractive color and interesting behavior. However, it is important to keep it in an adequate environment and provide it with appropriate food so that it can develop properly.
