Poecilocharax weitzmani (Charax de Weitzman, Tetra-Flechette Noir)
Description
The poecilocharax Weitzmani is a freshwater fish native to rivers and streams from South America. It is a small fish, measuring about 5 cm in length. It has an elongated body and compressed laterally, with a thin head and a small and sharp mouth. The poecilocharax Weitzmani has a dark brown-green color coloring, with lighter transverse strips on the body. The pectoral and pelvic fins are transparent, while the dorsal and caudal fins are dark brown-green with lighter spots.
Pecilocharax Weitzmani is a gregarious and social fish, which lives in groups in the shallow and calm waters of rivers and streams. It feeds mainly on insects, larvae and other small invertebrates, which it captures by filtering water through its gills. Pecilocharax Weitzmani is also known for its characteristic reproduction behavior, where males build nests using plants and plant debris to attract females. Once the eggs are laid in the nest, the males take care of protecting them until they hatch.
The Weitzmani poecilocharax is considered a species threatened in its natural habitat due to the destruction of its habitat by humans, as well as pollution and overfishing. Although this species is not widely known or studied, it is important to protect its natural habitat in order to preserve this unique and fragile species.
