Description

Carnastry, unsociable and snarling towards congeners and other species. Monitor the laying.

Protopterus dolloi fish is a freshwater fish that belongs to the Protopteridae family. It is mainly found in Africa, in wet tropical forest areas. The Protopterus Dolloi measures an average between 60 and 90 centimeters long, although some individuals can reach up to 1.2 meters. The fish has an elongated body and a wide and rounded head, with eyes in the lateral position. Its color varies from dark gray to black, with vertical strips lighter along the body. The protopterus dolloi is a compressed air fish, which means that it can fill its branchial cavities and its intestines with air to maintain itself on the surface of the water. The fish can thus breathe ambient air, which allows it to survive in shallow and not very oxygenated waters. Protopterus dolloi is a carnivorous fish that feeds mainly on fish, insects and crustaceans. Fish is also capable of feeding by feeding on the leaves and roots of aquatic plants. Protopterus dolloi is an oviparous fish, which means that it lays eggs. The female can lay up to 1,000 eggs at a time, which are placed on the branches and leaves of the aquatic plants. The eggs hatch approximately 10 days later, and the fry are then independent and feed alone. Protopterus dolloi is an important fish for the wet tropical forest ecosystem in Africa because it plays a predator role in the food chain. Fish is also a edible species for humans, and is often caught to be consumed locally.
