Description

Rachviscus crassiceces fish is a freshwater fish belonging to the Cyprinidae family. It is mainly found in rivers and West African lakes, especially in Chad, Niger and Cameroon.

The Rachviscus crassiceps has an elongated and lateral compressed body, which allows it to easily slip into the shallow waters and hidden areas of aquatic environments. Its skin is covered with small smooth and transparent scales, and it has a single dorsal fin, as well as pectoral and pelvic fins. Its head is slightly flattened and endowed with two large nostrils.

In terms of color, the Rachviscus crassiceps is mainly light gray or silver gray, with a dark band that crosses the middle of its body. This band can be more or less pronounced depending on the individual, and can also vary in intensity depending on age and the environment.

The Rachviscus crassiceps is mainly a freshwater fish, but it can also live in slightly healthy environments. It feeds mainly on small invertebrates and aquatic plants, but it can also adapt to other sources of food, especially when it is in captivity.

Although it is relatively common in its natural habitat, the Rachviscus crassiceps is threatened by water pollution, the degradation of its habitat and the overexploitation by fishermen. Because of these factors, it is currently classified as "worrying" on the red list of endangered species of the International Union for Nature Conservation.
