Description

The slender body and laterally tablet, is mainly characterized not the spectacular development of the dorsal and anal fins. Note that this fish is the only representative of this kind.

The dolichopterus terranat is a freshwater fish from rivers and lakes from North America. It is a lonely and fearful fish which measures approximately 15 cm long and weighs approximately 100 g.

The body of the dolichopterus terranat is lying and compressed laterally, which allows it to easily sneak into the rocks and cavities of the rivers. Its skin is covered with smooth and shiny scales, and its body is generally dark brown with lighter vertical stripes. His head is small and rounded, and his eyes are large and sunk into the head.

The dolichopterus terranat is mainly a background fish, which feeds on small crustaceans, aquatic insects, worms and molluscs. It can also feed on aquatic plants and small fish. The dolichopterus terranat is a shy and fearful fish that often hides in rock cavities or in aquatic herbs to protect itself from predators.

The dolichopterus terranat is a very territorial fish, which defends its territory against other fish. Males are particularly aggressive during the breeding season, and can fight for females or for quality reproduction areas. The reproduction of the dolichopterus terranatos generally occurs in the spring, when the waters of the river are in flood. Females lay hundreds of eggs they place on rocks or aquatic plants, and males fertilize the eggs. The frys hatch within a few days and are very vulnerable to predators.

Due to its beauty and shyness, the dolichopterus terranat is a popular fish in the aquarophilia. However, it is important to keep it in a large and well -appointed aquarium so that it can hide and feel safe. It is also important to provide it with a diet adapted to its needs and maintain water from the clean and healthy aquarium.
