Description

He has a gray body with brown spots on the body and is for ability to spit on a prey to eat it.

The Chatareus toxotes, also known as red tail toxote or yellow tail toxote, is a freshwater fish from East Asia and Southeast Asia. It is a fairly small fish, generally measuring between 5 and 10 centimeters in length. It has an oval shape and compressed laterally, with a large head and relatively small scales. Its color varies from silver gray to dark brown, with longitudinal stripes on the body and a bright red or bright yellow caudal fin, where its name comes from.

Chatareus toxotes is an omnivorous fish that feeds mainly on small invertebrates and aquatic plants. He is also known for his ability to use crossbow (or "arcs") to capture prey, a behavior that earned him his other name of red tail toxote. To hunt, the toxotes Chatareus uses its pectoral fins to propel itself forward and project the crossbow towards its prey.

The Chatareus toxotes is a gregarious fish that lives in a group in the shallow and slow waters of rivers, streams and lakes. It reproduces in rainy times, when the water levels increase and the conditions are ideal for egging eggs. The eggs are deposited on aquatic plants and adults watch over them until their hatching.
