Acanthurus leucosternon (White chest surgeon)
Description
This active aquarium swimmer is continuously looking for food. Avoid placing 2 A. Leucosternon in the same bac because the death of one or the other is inevitable. Indeed, if a group of 5 or 6 accept, a couple does not support themselves. Interspecific relations are very good. Only newcomers are abused at the start of their introduction into the bac. The highly compressed body side has a pure blue color with a white chest and a black head. The pectoral fins and the dorsal are yellow, the anal is whitish blue and the black and white caudal. There is also a particularly sharp stylus at the base of the Caudal pedicle characteristic of Acanthuridae.
The Acanthurus Leucosternon fish is a salt water fish native to the warm waters of the Indian and peaceful ocean. It is commonly called "white-white-docuser" due to its white color and the presence of a species of razor blade on its tail, which it uses to clean itself and defend itself against predators.
The body of the acanthurus leukosternon fish is elongated and covered with scales, with a thorny caudal fin and a rounded dorsal fin. Its color varies from white to gray, with black spots on the head and fins. The tip of its tail is often yellow or orange.
The Acanthurus Leucosternon fish can reach a length of 40 centimeters, although most specimens measure approximately 20 centimeters. It feeds mainly on plankton and algae which it filters using its suction cup -shaped mouth.
The Acanthurus Leucosternon fish lives in groups called "schools" which can count up to several hundred individuals. He has territorial behavior and can become aggressive towards other fish approaching his territory.
The Acanthurus Leucosternon fish is considered a common species in its natural habitat, although it is sometimes threatened by illegal fishing and the destruction of its habitat. It is also popular in the aquarophilia because of its attractive color and its social behavior.
