Description

This fish is suitable for a community aquarium with robust vegetation. It must be kept in a group. You have to leave a free space so that it can swim. You can decorate the aquarium with rocks, roots, plastic plants or very robust plants such as the Java fern.

Brachychalcinus orbicularis fish is a little fish from the callionymidae family. It measures approximately 4 to 5 centimeters long and is characterized by its round and flattened shape, with a wide head and a mouth with the rounded shape. Its color varies from dark gray to dark brown, with lighter spots spread over its body.

Brachychalcinus orbicularis lives mainly in the shallow waters of coral reefs, where it feeds on small invertebrates such as crustaceans and molluscs. It is often found in a group, moving slowly by sliding through the rocks and crevices of reefs in search of food.

Brachychalcinus orbicularis reproduces in periods of Frai, when males and females gather in large benches to spawn. The eggs are laid in the crevices and cavities of the reefs, where they are protected from predators. Once hatched, the fry is very small and depend on the protection of their natural habitat to survive.

Brachychalcinus orbicularis is a peaceful fish that does not pose a danger for humans. It is sometimes captured for the aquarophilia, but its small size and its low tolerance for captivity make it a fish difficult to maintain in a domestic aquarium. Due to its vulnerability and the destruction of coral reefs, brachychalcinus orbicularis is considered a species in danger of extinction by the International Union for Nature Conservation (IUCN).
