Description

Metynnis Hypsauchen is a freshwater fish from the Cichlidae family, originally from the swamp and river regions of South America. He is commonly known as "silver catfish" because of his resemblance to domestic cats and the silver color of his body. The Metynnis Hypsauchen has an elongated shape and a dorsal finish in the shape of a sail. Its average size is approximately 15 centimeters, although it can reach up to 20 centimeters in length in its natural habitat.

Metynnis Hypsauchen is an omnivorous fish that feeds on small invertebrates, crustaceans and plants in its natural environment. In captivity, it can also be nourished with fish pellets, frozen vegetables and vase worms. This fish is generally peaceful and can be kept in a group in a community aquarium with other peaceful fish. However, it can become aggressive towards other fish when it is during breeding.

Metynnis Hypsauchen is a monogamous fish that forms stable couples for reproduction. The males build a bubble nest on the surface of the water and protect their nest and their offspring against predators and other fish. The females lay their eggs in the nest and the males fertilize the eggs.
