Distichodus lussoso (Long nose DistiS)
Description
The Lussoso DistiSODUS is a freshwater fish belonging to the Distichodontidae family. It is from the waters of Congo and Gabon in Central Africa. It is a fairly imposing fish, which can reach a size of more than 40 centimeters in length and weigh up to 1.5 kilogram. Its most remarkable characteristic is undoubtedly its mouth, which is distorted in a powerful and flattened beak, allowing it to easily grind the shells and the crustaceans it feeds.
The Lussoso DistiSoso has a very varied color, ranging from dark green to bright orange, with spots and scratches which give it a very aesthetic appearance. Its tail is generally bright red, which earned it its other name "Fish-perroquet".
The Lussoso Distilation is a lonely and territorial fish, which likes to hide in the dark and remote places of its natural habitat. It feeds mainly on shells, crustaceans and smaller fish that it catches with its powerful beak. Despite its imposing size, it is not considered a threat to other fish species in its natural environment.
In aquarium, the Lussoso DistiSoDus requires a space important enough to move and hide. It is also important to provide it with varied food adapted to its natural diet, including shells, crustaceans and living or frozen fish. It can cohabit with other species of peaceful freshwater fish, provided you have sufficient space for each.
The Lussoso DistiSODUS is an interesting fish to observe because of its imposing size and its varied coloring. However, it is not recommended for beginners in aquarophilia because of its specific needs in terms of space and food.
