Gastromyzon punctulatus (Punctuated Loche)

Gastromyzon punctulatus (Punctuated Loche)

Description

It is a flat fish, the ventral side is white, almost transparent, and you see its heart beat. The head is wide and square, the eye is placed high, circled in yellow. The general color is fairly orange brown and it has dark, round and small spots uniformly distributed over the body and head. The fins and the tail are also spotted with dark brown or black. Reproduction is currently unknown in aquarium. We do not differentiate the male from the female, they do not have apparent dimorphism. It seems that sexual maturity is quite late. Like other fish of the same one it would be oviparous fish that would lay their eggs in a cave or a cavity dug in wood ...

Its color varies from gray to dark brown, with lighter spots on the top of its body. His skin is covered with small scales which give it a smooth and shiny appearance.

The punctulatus gastromyzon has a very characteristic shape, with an elongated and flattened body on the sides. Its head is small and rounded, with two small eyes and a mouth in the shape of a beak. The Punctulatus gastromyzon is a fish that lives mainly in mountain watercourses in the Borneo region, Indonesia. He prefers calm and clear waters, with a rocky or sandy background. It feeds mainly on small insects and larvae, which it captures by searching the bottom of the water with its mouth in the shape of a beak.

The Punctulatus gastromyzon is a lonely and territorial fish, which generally lives alone or in small groups. It is active mainly at night and rests during the day, hidden under the stones or in the crevices of the bottom of the water.
