Description

Cyanoguttatus carpintus herichthys, more commonly known as carpentaria tiger fish, is a freshwater fish from Rivers and Texas and Northeast Mexico. It is a lonely and territorial fish, which measures on average between 10 and 15 centimeters in length. It has an elongated and laterally compressed body, with a caudal bifide fin and moderately developed pectoral and pelvic fins.

Carpentaria tiger fish is generally recognizable by its color, which is mainly gray or brown with dark vertical stripes and orange or red spots on the body and head. Males generally have more bright colors than females, with larger and more numerous spots. The fins can also be colored differently, with red or yellow spots on the back and pelvic fins.

Carpentaria tiger fish is an opportunistic predator, which feeds mainly on small fish, insects and crustaceans. It can also feed on aquatic plants and microorganisms found in the substrate. Carpentaria tiger fish has territorial behavior, and males can be aggressive towards other males of their species when they compete for a territory or a partner.

Carpentaria tiger fish is a popular aquarium fish, as it is generally easy to raise and can coexist with other peaceful species.
