The Melichthys Ringens is a fish belonging to the Melichthys family. It is commonly known as a fishing fish or a pistol fish because of its ability to produce a sound like a shot by releasing air from its gills. The Melichthys Ringens is from tropical and subtropical waters of the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean, where it is mainly around coral reefs.

The Melichthys Ringens is a fairly imposing fish, with a length of up to about 1 meter and a weight that can exceed 10 kg. Its color varies from gray to brown, with black and white strips on the sides and white spots on the head. Its mouth has sharp teeth and two large dorsal fins, one with a fan shape.

The Melichthys Ringens is a gregarious fish that moves in important benches. It feeds mainly on smaller fish, but can also eat crustaceans and molluscs. Fish-tanist is a popular species for sports fishing because of its imposing size and its resistance to combat.

Because of its presence in coral reefs, the Melichthys Ringens plays an important role in the marine ecosystem by helping to maintain biodiversity by controlling the populations of smaller fish. However, like many other reef fish, it is threatened by the destruction of coral habitats caused by humans, such as overexploitation and laundering of corals. It is also threatened by commercial fishing and illegal fishing.
