Description
The Metynnis Maculatus, also known as silver-catfish, is a freshwater fish from South America. This fish belongs to the cichlid family, a very diverse family of fish which includes more than 1,400 different species. Maculatus Metynnis is a fairly imposing fish, up to a size of 30 centimeters long and weigh up to 1.5 kilogram.
Maculatus Metynnis has an elongated and slender shape, with a slim and tapered body. Its head is wide and flattened, with round eyes and a pointed muzzle. His mouth is fitted with scissors -shaped teeth, which allows him to cut and shred his food. Silver catfish is generally silver gray, with irregular black spots all over the body. The fins are transparent and the tail is strong and indented.

In captivity, Metynnis Maculatus is an easy to raise fish, although it needs a large aquarium to move freely. Silver catfish is a very robust and resistant fish, which can live up to 10 years in captivity if it is given a good diet and an adapted environment. However, it can be aggressive towards other fish, so it is important to raise it alone or with species of similar sizes.
