Neolebias axelrodi (Axelrod neolebias)
Description
Neolebias Axelrodi is a fish from South America's fresh waters. It is a small fish, measuring on average between 3.5 and 4.5 cm in length. It has an elongated and slender shape, with a sharp head and a bifurcated caudal fin.
Neolebias Axelrodi has a variable color according to its habitat and its development stage. Juveniles generally have a grayish color with black spots and longitudinal strips, while adults can have shades ranging from dark to dark green, with white stripes and yellow spots on the sides.
The Neolebias Axelrodi is an omnivorous fish that feeds mainly on small insects, insect larvae and molluscs. In captivity, it can also be nourished with fish pellets, artemias and daphnia.
Neolebias Axelrodi is a gregarious fish that likes to live in a group in shallow freshwater environments, such as shallow streams and rivers. It is generally quite calm and peaceful, but can be territorial towards other fish of the same species in conditions of overcrowding.
