Nannocharax ansorgei (African Tetra-Flechette d'Ansorge)

Nannocharax ansorgei (African Tetra-Flechette d'Ansorge)

Description

The nannocharax is a little freshwater fish that belongs to the Characidae family. It measures approximately 4 to 5 centimeters long and has an elongated and laterally compressed body. Its color generally varies between brown and gray, with darker stripes along its sides and sometimes lighter spots on its head and its caudal fin.

The Nannocharax Ansorgei is from West Africa, where it is mainly in the calm and shallow waters of rivers and lakes. It is omnivorous and feeds mainly on insects, crustaceans and small fish, but can also eat plants and algae.

Nannocharax yearsorgei is a gregarious fish that tends to live in important groups. The males are generally a little larger than females and have a larger and more thorny dorsal fin. During the reproduction season, males can become very aggressive and fight between them for domination and access to females. Reproduction is generally done by Frai, with females laying their eggs in nests dug in the substrate and males fertilizing them.

The nannocharax yearsorgei is a popular fish in the aquarophilia, because of its beautiful color and its gregarious behavior. It is generally easy to raise in captivity, but it is important to provide it with a well planted and oxygenated aquarium, with hiding places to hide and plants or algae to feed. As it is very sensitive to water changes and diseases, it is important to maintain clean water and regularly monitor your health.
