Panaque suttoni (Gray Panaque)

Description

This panic is very gray with the blue eyes. Panaque are the cousins of the plcos. But do not confuse them with the plcos because the panics have a high head, the bigger eyes, the fins wider than it, it has small teeth.

The Panaque Suttoni is a freshwater fish native to South America. It is mainly known for its distinct appearance, with its mouth with large jaws and thick and graying teeth which allow it to scrape the surface of the rocks to feed.

The Panaque Suttoni is also known as the Charbonnier fish, due to its dark color and its ability to camouflage itself in the dark waters of its natural habitat. Most specimens are approximately 30 cm long, although some can reach more imposing sizes.

This fish is a lonely animal, which prefers to live alone in caves or hidden corners of the river. It is mainly nocturnal and feeds mainly on plants, fruits and dead leaves. It is also known to scratch the surface of the rocks to feed on algae, mosses and lichens.

The Panaque Suttoni is a protected species due to its rarity and the destruction of its natural habitat. However, it is also popular in the aquarophilia, where it is appreciated for its dark color and its lonely personality. It is recommended to maintain this fish in a large aquarium, with a lot of hiding places and rocks to allow it to hide and feel safe.
