Pomacanthus maculosus (Angel fish in Croissant)
Description
The pomacanthus maculosus is a fish from the Pomacanthidae family, originally from coral reefs of the Indian Ocean and the West Pacific Ocean. It is a colored and attractive fish, with a tail in the shape of a spindle and a head decorated with bone protuberances in the shape of thorns. The body of this fish is dark blue, dotted with irregular yellow spots and blue and white vertical strips along the sides. The dorsal fin is yellow with black edges, while the caudal fin is white with black stripes. The mouth is small and rounded, with conical teeth adapted to predation on invertebrates such as molluscs and crustaceans.
The pomacanthus maculosus measures an average of 30 cm in length, although some specimens can reach up to 50 cm. It is a lonely and territorial fish, which generally lives in areas of deep coral reefs, near rocky slopes or caves. It feeds mainly on molluscs and crustaceans, which it captures using its sharp teeth.
The pomacanthus maculosus is considered a popular ornamental fish in the aquarophilia, due to its beautiful color and relatively small size. However, it is important to note that these fish can be aggressive and must be kept with similar species in an aquarium large enough to allow them to move freely. They also require a diet adapted to their needs, with particular attention paid to the quality and diversity of food.
