Potamotrygon schroederi (Schroder pastenague, ray guacamaya)

Potamotrygon schroederi (Schroder pastenague, ray guacamaya)

Description

The Potamotrygon Schroederi is a fish with radiated fins, commonly known as a tiger ray, which is native to the rivers of South America. This fish is characterized by a unique coloring, with black and white diamond patterns throughout the body, giving the impression of a tiger coat from which its common name comes. The tiger line is a medium -sized fish, generally reaching about 30 cm in length, although some specimens can reach up to 50 cm.

The Potamotrygon Schroederi has a flat and oval body, with large and rounded pelvic fins. The head is small and rounded, with piercing eyes and a mouth -shaped mouth which allows it to easily capture its prey. Potamotrygon Schroederi is an active predator, mainly feeding on fish, insects and crustaceans.

The tiger line is a lonely fish, generally living alone in the shallow waters of the rivers of South America. The Potamotrygon Schroederi can be found in the clear and sandy waters of the rivers, where it camouflages itself by covering with sand to protect itself from predators and catch its prey by surprise. The Potamotrygon Schroederi is also known to be a good digger, digging holes in the sand to hide or lay its eggs.

Unfortunately, the Potamotrygon Schroederi is a endangered species due to the overexploitation and destruction of its natural habitat. Many specimens are captured to be sold in the aquariophile trade, which has led to a sharp decrease in their population in the wild. Because of this, it is important to protect tiger lines and their habitat to ensure their long -term survival.
