Pseudotropheus saulosi corail red (Pseudotrophic Saulosi)

Pseudotropheus saulosi corail red (Pseudotrophic Saulosi)

Description

The male and the female are both oranges, but thereafter, the male becomes blue.

The pseudotrophic Saulosi, also known as the Red Corail, is a cichlid fish from the fresh waters of Lake Malawi in East Africa. This fish is characterized by its bright red color and by its dress which is decorated with patterns in the shape of black vertical stripes. The red coral measures about 10 cm long and has an elongated body and laterally compressed.

Red coral is a gregarious fish that lives in small groups in shallow waters with a rocky substrate rich in crevices and cavities where it can hide. These fish are omnivorous and feed mainly on small crustaceans, molluscs and plankton. They can also eat algae and other plants.

Red coral is a territorial fish which can be aggressive towards its congeners and towards other species of fish. Males are particularly aggressive towards other males and can fight for control of territories.

Red coral is a reproductive fish that reproduces by making mud nests. The female lays her eggs in the nest and the male fertilizes them. The male then protects the eggs and the fry until they are large enough to fend for themselves.
