Roeboides thurni (Thum glass tetra)
Description
Roeboides Thurni fish is a freshwater fish belonging to the Cichlidae family. He is from Rivers and Lakes from Latin America, mainly southern Brazil and Argentina. It measures approximately 10 to 12 centimeters in length and weighs approximately 50 grams.
The Thurni Roeboides has an elongated body and compressed laterally, with a small and rounded head. Its color is generally gray or brown, with irregular spots on the body and fins. The underside of his body is often clearer than the top. The dorsal and anal fins are long and well developed, with thorny rays.
Roeboides Thurni is an opportunistic fish that feeds mainly on small invertebrates, such as insects, crustaceans and molluscs. It can also eat aquatic plants and small fish. Roeboides Thurni is a gregarious fish that lives in groups in aquatic environments where it can find sufficient food.
Roeboides Thurni is a fairly territorial reproductive fish. Reproduction generally takes place during the hottest months, when rivers and lakes are the hottest. The female lays her eggs in a nest dug in the sand or aquatic plants, and the male fertilizes them. Young fish are born after about a month and a half and stay in the nest until they are large enough to defend themselves.
Roeboides Thurni is a common fish in its natural habitat, but it can be threatened by water pollution, destruction of its habitat and competition with other species of fish for food and reproductive sites. It is protected by environmental laws in certain countries, but it is also high in aquarium for sale as a pet.
