Description

Salminus Maxillosus is a fish from South America rivers, notably Paraguay and Argentina. It is a solid and muscular fish, with a wide head and a protractile mouth with many pointed teeth. Her dress is generally gray-green on top, with a white strip along the side line and a white belly. The fins are dark gray with white stripes.

Salminus maxillosus is a carnivorous fish that feeds mainly on smaller fish, but it can also eat insects, crustaceans and small aquatic mammals. It is known for its voracity and its powerful jaw, which allow it to easily capture its prey.

The Salminus Maxillosus is a very popular fish with sports fishermen, due to its impressive size and its strength during fights. In general, individuals are between 30 and 60 cm in length, although some specimens can reach more imposing sizes. They also have a relatively long life expectancy for a freshwater fish, which can live up to 10 years or more.

The Salminus Maxillosus is also known as "Dorado" or "Dourado" because of the golden color of his dress when it is young. However, he loses this color as they age and becomes more gray-green. The Dorado is considered a hot water fish, and it prefers hot temperate waters. It is also an excellent swimmer and can reach impressive speeds for a freshwater fish.

Salminus maxillosus is a protected fish in certain places, due to the pressure exerted by sporting and water pollution. However, it is still largely present in the rivers of South America and continues to be a popular species with sports fishermen.
