Tropheus duboisi (Duboisi)

Tropheus duboisi (Duboisi)

Description

With age and sexual maturity, young people gradually lose their pearly points and see their sides adorned with a white or yellowish strip, more or less wide depending on their geographic origin.

The tropheus duboisi is a freshwater fish from the Tanganyika and Malawi lakes, in East Africa. It is a cichlid fish, a very diverse family of fish which includes more than 1,400 different species. The Duboisi Tropheus is a relatively small fish, generally measuring between 10 and 12 centimeters in length. Her dress is characteristic, with black and bright orange strips that cover the whole body. Its caudal fin is also decorated with black spots.

The tropheus duboisi is a gregarious fish, that is to say that it tends to live in groups. In nature, these groups can count up to a hundred individuals. Tropheus Duboisi is also known for its territoriality, that is to say that it can become aggressive towards other fish if it feels threatened or if its territory is invaded.

The trophyus duboisi is an omnivorous fish, that is to say that it feeds on both plants and small animals. In nature, its diet mainly includes algae, crustaceans and insects. In captivity, it is generally nourished with pellets specially designed for cichlids, as well as with vegetables and fresh fruit.

The trophyus duboisi is a very popular fish with aquarophilia enthusiasts because of its colorful dress and its gregarious behavior. However, it can be difficult to raise in captivity because of its territoriality and its tendency to attack other fish. It is therefore important to raise it in an aquarium large enough so that it can move freely and with a sufficient number of other duboisi trophies so that it feels safe. In general, it is recommended to maintain a group of duboisi tropheus in an aquarium of at least 500 liters, with rocks and plants to offer them hiding places and surfaces on which to snack.
