Xiphorus maculatus (XIPHO GREEN or XIPHO Wild)

Xiphorus maculatus (XIPHO GREEN or XIPHO Wild)

Description

As its name suggests, it is the original strain of our breeding XIPHO. The wild XIPHO is gray-green in color with a small longitudinal strip of dark red color at the flow line.

The Xiphorus Maculatus is a freshwater fish from the poeciliidae family. It is also known as black stains swords. The Xiphorus Maculatus is native to the South Americas, where it is commonly found in the fresh and shallow waters of rivers and lakes.

The Xiphorus Maculatus has an elongated and lateral compressed body, which gives it a torpedo -shaped shape. Its caudal fin is long and tapered, which allows it to quickly move in water. Its dorsal fin is also long and tapered, with a blade-shaped extension at the back of the body, hence its name of sword fish. The Xiphorus Maculatus also has a pectoral fin located on each side of its head.

The color of the Xiphorus Maculatus varies according to its habitat and age. In young individuals, the body is generally gray or dark green with black vertical stripes. In adults, the color of the body can vary from dark brown to olive green, with black spots dispersed all over the body. The fins of the Xiphorus Maculatus are generally transparent, bordered with black.

The Xiphorus Maculatus is a lonely and territorial fish. It feeds mainly on small aquatic animals, such as insects, crustaceans and molluscs. The Xiphorus Maculatus can also feed on aquatic plants, in particular algae.

The Xiphorus Maculatus is a very popular freshwater fish in aquarophilia, due to its beautiful color and its sword -shaped fin. However, it is important to provide Xiphorus Maculatus with an adequate environment in the aquarium, with sufficient space to swim and well -filtered water maintained at the right temperature.
