Xyrichthys novacula (Pearl)

Xyrichthys novacula (Pearl)

Description

This rather stocky fish has a green pink coloring. The whole body is covered with mauve marbles. The dorsal, anal and caudal fins are reddish rose.

The Xyrichthys Novacula fish is a fish from the Labridae family, commonly known as "Lutin Fish" due to its small size and elongated shape. It measures approximately 10 to 12 centimeters long and has a distinctive appearance with a flat and wide head, round eyes and a pointed muzzle. Its color varies from dark gray to bright orange, with blue and yellow spots on the body and fins.

Lutin fish mainly lives in the tropical and subtropical waters of the Indian and Pacific Oceans, including coral reefs and mangroves. It is a gregarious fish which is often in small groups in shallow and coastal waters. It feeds mainly on small crustaceans and molluscs, which it hunts using its speed and maneuverability to sneak between rocks and corals.

Lutin fish is also known for its ability to make spectacular jumps out of the water, which allows it to escape its predators. This skill has earned him his other common name, "Jumping fish". Lutin fish is also popular with aquarium enthusiasts because of its beauty and active behavior.

Unfortunately, Lutin fish is threatened by illegal fishing, lost habitat and the erosion of coral reefs due to climate change and human activity. This is why it is important to protect these species and their habitat to preserve marine biodiversity.
