Coris formosa (Red labrid)

Description

This particularly sociable fish has its place in a vast community aquarium. Like many marine fish, this species has 2 types of coloring depending on the growth stage. The juveniles offer a brown-red body livery where several triangular white spots are clearly visible. Adults become dark brown and their body is dotted with large round spots on the posterior half.

The Coris Formosa is a fish from the Labridae family, commonly known as percopper. It is from the coastal waters of the Southwest Pacific, mainly around the Galápagos Islands and the coasts of South America. This fish is characterized by its bright color and its elongated shape. Its head is wide and flat, with large pectoral fins which allow it to quickly propel itself into water. Its dress is generally bright blue or bright green, with zigzag patterns and red, yellow and orange spots.

Coris Formosa is a territorial and lonely fish, which feeds mainly on molluscs and crustaceans which it finds by digging in the sand. He is also known for his ability to change color according to his environment, which allows him to camouflage himself to escape his predators.

The Coris Formosa is a generally calm and not very aggressive fish, but it can be very territorial and be aggressive towards the other fish which penetrate its vital space. It is therefore important to keep it in a sufficient aquarium to allow it to move freely and avoid conflicts with other fish.

In captivity, the Coris Formosa can reach a length of 30 centimeters and live up to 15 years. It is a fish that requires regular maintenance and a well -equipped aquarium, with adequate filtration and plants to offer hiding places and good water quality. Due to its bright color and its interesting behavior, Coris Formosa is a popular fish with aquarophilia lovers.
