They are still poorly known. In all cases, unclean water, deficient or too rich food and lack of light are activating factors of the disease. It is triggered by modifications in the aquatic environment: change of water after a long stagnation, fertilization after a prolonged diet, replacement of a too old lighting tube or cleaning a very dirty filter.
Immediately rebalance the aquatic environment. Suck up plant debris. Leave the plants at rest, they heal most of the time in a few weeks. Prevention: Remember to change the water regularly, to fertilize, to replace the defective lighting tubes
