Description

Alests Imberi is a freshwater fish that lives mainly in the rivers and lakes of West Africa. It has an average size of about 15 cm and is recognizable by its wide and flat head, as well as its caudal fin in the shape of a bird tail. Its dress is generally gray-blue, with black vertical stripes on the sides and a black dorsal fin.

Alestry fish Imberi is an opportunistic predator that feeds mainly on small fish, insects and larvae. He drives out by quickly swimming in shallow waters to capture his prey. Alestry fish Imberi is also a remarkable jumper, capable of leaping out of the water to catch flying insects.

Alests Imberi is a lonely fish that only gathers in a group for reproduction. The breeding period generally takes place during the rainy season, when the waters of rivers and lakes are swollen. The males build nests by digging holes in the sands of the shores, in which the females lay their eggs. The eggs hatch in a few days and the fry are protected by the males until they are large enough to defend themselves.

Alests Imberi is considered to be a kind of common fish in West Africa, although it is threatened by the destruction of its habitat and overexploitation by fishermen. However, due to its rapid reproduction and its ability to adapt to different habitats, it is considered a species that are not very threatened with extinction.
