Oryzias melastigma (Killi of Java)

Oryzias melastigma (Killi of Java)

Description

The melastigma oryzias fish is a small fish belonging to the family of Adrianichthyidae. It measures approximately 3 centimeters in length and is mainly known for its habitat in the marshes, rice fields and freshwater ponds in the subtropical and tropical regions of Southeast Asia. The melastigma oryzias fish has an elongated body and laterally compressed, with relatively small dorsal and anal fins. Its color generally varies between gray, brown and green, with darker vertical stripes along its body.

Oryzias Melastigma fish is mainly a freshwater fish, although it can also be found in brackish or savory environments. It feeds mainly on small invertebrates and plankton, which it captures by filtering water through its branchies. Oryzias Melastigma fish is generally lonely, although it can form groups with other individuals of the same species when it is during breeding.

The reproduction of the melastigma oryzias fish is generally done by the removal of eggs, although some individuals can also be ovoviviparous. The female generally lays a large amount of eggs, which it fixes to solid surfaces such as submerged leaves or branches. The eggs hatch approximately three to five days later, producing larvae which feed mainly on plankton. Young fish reach sexual maturity in six to eight weeks, and can live up to two years in nature.

Oryzias Melastigma fish is generally considered to be an undeveloped species, although it is sometimes affected by the destruction of its natural habitat and water pollution. It is also often used as aquarium fish, although it can be difficult to keep in captivity due to its water quality requirements. Despite these challenges, the melastigma oryzias fish continues to be part of the ecosystem of the marshes and rice fields in Southeast Asia, where it plays an important role in the regulation of populations of invertebrates and plankton.
