Description

Hemigrammopetersius northern is a freshwater fish from the Cichlidae family, originally from the clear and shallow waters of the northeast hydrographic basins of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Tanzania.

It measures approximately 8 to 10 cm in length, and has an elongated body and laterally compressed, covered with a thick layer of small silver scales. Its head is sharp and provided with two pairs of barbels, one of which is located under the chin and the other on the cheeks. His eyes are large and his mouth is oriented upwards.

Hemigrammopetersius northern has a dark brown-green color coloring, with lighter spots and white marbles on the body and fins. The dorsal fin is blue with yellow bands, while the anal fin is yellow with black spots. The caudal fin is also yellow, with a black strip on the edges.

Hemigrammopetersius northern is an omnivorous fish that feeds mainly on crustaceans, insects, molluscs and aquatic plants. He lives in groups in the shallow and calm waters of lakes and rivers, and can be found in rocky areas, herbaria and sandy areas.
