Holacanthus trimaculatus (Three spots)
Description
The Holacanthus Trimaculatus is a fish from the Pomacanthidae family, also known as the royal angian, blue fish-angel or three-stache fishing fish. It is characterized by its bright blue color and its three black spots on the body, one at the base of the dorsal fin, another on the pelvic fin and the last on the caudal fin. Its size can reach up to 30 cm.
The Trimaculatus Holacanthus lives in the tropical waters of the Atlantic, mainly around the Caribbean, Bahamas and Florida islands. It is often observed near coral reefs, where it feeds mainly on small invertebrates such as crustaceans and molluscs.
This fish is very territorial and can be aggressive towards other species that approach its territory. It also has spectacular nuptial parade behaviors, where males swell their fins to attract females.
Holacanthus Trimaculatus is a protected species in certain regions and is considered vulnerable on a global scale due to the loss of its natural habitat and overexploitation by human activities, such as recreational and commercial fishing. Despite these threats, he is commonly observed in marine reserves and national parks, where he attracts many visitors because of his bright color and unique behavior.
