Genicanthus lamarck (Lamarck Angel Fish)

Description

White is the main color of this fish; Three or four black bands cross the body horizontally in its upper part.

The Genicanthus Lamarck fish is a fish from the Pomacanthidae family, known as the blue fish-angles. He is mainly found in the tropical waters of the Pacific Ocean around the Hawaii islands, where he lives in coral reefs.

The Genicanthus Lamarck is a large fish, up to a length of 30 centimeters. Its most remarkable characteristic is the difference in color between the sexes: males have shiny blue body with yellow and white spots on the head and fins, while females have the gray body with black and white spots.

The Genicanthus Lamarck feeds mainly on plankton and small crustaceans which it filters using its gills. It slowly moves in coral reefs using its pectoral fins to propel itself.

The Genicanthus Lamarck is a lonely fish that only gathers for reproduction. The breeding period takes place in summer, when males build a nest of air bubbles to which they attract females for fertilization. The eggs are laid in the nest and are incubated by males until the fry of fry.

The Genicanthus Lamarck is considered a common reef fish, but it is threatened by the destruction of coral reefs and illegal fishing. It is protected by law in certain places, such as in the United States in Hawaii national parks.
