Macropodus cupanus (Brown-tail-tail fishing fish)
Description
The macropodus cupanus is a freshwater fish from certain regions of Asia, especially in southern China and Vietnam. It is a relatively small fish, generally measuring between 8 and 10 cm in length, although some specimens can reach up to 12 cm.
The macropodus cupanus has an elongated body and compressed laterally, with a wide head and a well developed mouth. Its coloring varies, but it is generally gray-greenish or brown-verdon, with brown or gray marbles on the back and flanks. The belly is often clearer, with silver reflections. The fins are transparent, with black or brown rays.
Macropodus cupanus is an omnivorous fish, mainly feeding on small crustaceans, insects and aquatic plants. It is generally active during the day and can be observed quickly swimming in the shallow waters of rivers and streams.
The macropodus cupanus is often used as aquarium fish, thanks to its beautiful coloring and its active behavior. However, it is important to provide him with an environment adapted to his needs, with a filter and good filtration of water, as well as plants and hiding places so that he can hide and reproduce. In captivity, the macropodus cupanus can live up to 5 years, although the average lifespan is generally lower than that.
