Oxycirrhites typus (Scotlers)

Oxycirrhites typus (Scotlers)

Description

This fish uses its pectoral fins as crutches to stabilize on the coral or in the gorgonians that make up the decor. It is thus very often placed in a watch position, ready to catch possible prey. The food identified, he starts from his observation post to catch him and immediately returns to replace himself in the waiting position. This very familiar fish has good interspecific relations and its intraspecific relations are satisfactory, provided that it is enough space (400 L for 2 or 3 specimens.)

The OxyCirrhites Typus fish, also known as royal angian or royal angian fish, is a tropical marine fish from warm and Indian oceans. It is a relatively large fish, generally reaching a length of about 20 cm, although some specimens can measure up to 30 cm long. Royal Angel Fish is recognizable by its bright blue color, with orange and yellow spots on the head and body, as well as its long pectoral fins which give it the appearance of an angel.

Royal Angel Fish is a lonely fish that feeds mainly on small invertebrates such as crustaceans and molluscs. He is also known to be an opportunistic predator, does not hesitate to eat smaller fish if they are within reach of fins. Royal Angel Fish also has the particularity of digging holes in the sand to hide its eggs there, which gives it the appearance of digging a hole with its head.

Royal Angel Fish is a very popular fish in the aquarophilia, due to its beauty and its interesting behavior. However, it can be difficult to keep in captivity because of its specific food needs and its territorial behavior. It is therefore recommended that beginners aquariophiles to stick to species that are easier to maintain.

Due to its popularity with aquariophiles, royal angian fish is often captured in the wild to be sold in aquarophilia stores. Unfortunately, this practice can cause damage to the marine environment, by disturbing natural ecosystems and threatening the survival of the wild populations of royal angels. Consequently, it is important to buy royal anti-angels from controlled farms rather than captured in the wild.
